JCG encourages students to step in and step up with new Female Leadership Programme sponsored by KPMG

In a bid to address the scarcity of women in leadership roles, Jersey College for Girls has launched a new Female Leadership Programme for Sixth Form students this week.

Studies have shown women make better leaders whilst businesses that employ women in leadership positions do better. The JCG Leadership programme will help students increase their confidence, identify their strengths, understand the skills of leadership and build their sense of themselves as leaders.

The innovative curriculum was developed, and will be led, by Gaëlle Deschamps of G Force.  “I am passionate about empowering girls and women to thrive,” Miss Deschamps said. “I am therefore delighted to be part of the solution and admire JCG’s aspiration to be sector leaders in female leadership.”

As Head of JCG’s Sixth Form, Natalie Hopkins saw a need for such a programme to help students as they navigate life beyond JCG.  “We're excited to be launching a bespoke leadership programme at JCG. This will provide students with a plethora of opportunities to reflect on and enhance their own strengths in leadership and to network with and learn from women already leading change.”

Amber, Year 12, remarked: ‘This programme will give us insight into how few women are represented in leadership roles and empower us to step in and step up."

Carl Howarth, Principal, emphasised the importance of this programme, ‘it will take our students beyond their comfort zone but not beyond their capabilities. Our students will shape the society in which they live and work, and a critical aspect of this is the need to bridge the leadership gap.  We are immensely grateful to KPMG for supporting the initiative not only through funding but also through mentoring and essential skills workshops for our students.”

Theola Byrne, Director, Audit, said: “KPMG in the Crown Dependencies is delighted to be supporting this new female leadership programme in JCG. Our Purpose is to ‘Inspire confidence and empower change’ and we believe this programme is going to do just this for students at JCG. We wish all the students involved the best on their journey to be the leaders of tomorrow and look forward to working with the students and JCG.”
